Principal's Welcome
I would like to extend a warm welcome to Port Douglas State School where every student counts. We continually strive for excellence in teaching and learning ensuring student achievement is of a high quality.
In 2011 we introduced explicit teaching as a model to enhance the quality of teaching. Students must know the intent of each lesson and what is expected of them to achieve a high standard; the teacher demonstrates what to be learnt (I do), works with students to practice what has been taught (We Do) and then provides opportunities for students to independently demonstrate what they have learnt (You Do). Reflecting back students are able to make connections between what they have learnt and how this will benefit them in everyday life.
Teachers strive for continuous improvement through regular coaching and feedback sessions with the school leadership team. Student achievement is regularly tracked, analyzed and fed back to students to ensure they know what is needed to enable them to attain quality educational outcomes. Above all at Port Douglas State School we believe that learning must be enjoyable giving students opportunities to celebrate and to show how much we value their achievements.
Port Douglas State School is very proud to be affiliated with the Reef Guardian projects based around the sustainability of the Great Barrier Reef. We work in conjunction with the Reef Guardian Project which is a government initiative aimed at promoting conservation of our natural environment.
We value quality partnerships between home and school and view this as crucial as we work together to educate students to become active and valued members of the Port Douglas community.
