GREAT CYCLE CHALLENGE
RIDE YOUR BICYCLE AT SCHOOL IN OCTOBER

Hi Port Douglas State School Family

You may be aware that I have entered a team in the Great Cycle Challenge to ride this October to fight kids' cancer.

The team is called Port Douglas State School sKOOL KRUzers and I'm inviting you to join us.

It's a great excuse to get on your bike and it's for a great cause – to help kids living with cancer.

To encourage participation I have planned to allow our students to ride their bikes during first break for the whole month of October.

HERE’S WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
1.       All students can bring a bike to ride at school for the month of October and ride during first break.
2.       To be allowed to ride students must:
a.       Master the PDSS Cycling Licence Test
b.      Follow the 3 major rules to BE SAFE and BE RESPONSIBLE:
                                                               i.      Wear a helmet and shoes
ii.      Ride on the Cycling Track
iii.      Give way to anything that is Smaller or Slower than you
c.       Register as a rider in the Great Cycle Challenge;
OR/AND
d.      Make a donation to the Port Douglas State School sKOOL KRUzers Team -  https://greatcyclechallenge.com.au/Teams/PortDouglasStateSchoolsKOOLKRUzers/h
                                                               i.      This will be checked online or cash donations can be given to Mr Gaske
3.       A risk assessment has been completed.  Cycling under these conditions is considered a Medium risk that does not require parental permission.  However, the GCC Registration or GCC Donation will imply parental support. *Please note: Students do not have to participate – this is simply a lunchtime activity on offer.
4.       Students must meet Mr Gaske (or designated staff member) at the PDSS bicycle racks at the beginning of each first break to conduct a brief helmet, bike and licence check before cycling.
5.       Students must carry their PDSS Cycling Licence with them at all times while cycling.
6.       Any behaviour that is deemed unsafe or irresponsible will result in the PDSS Cycling Licence being revoked.  Students will then have to re-complete the PDSS Cycling Licence Test.
7.       In the unlikely event of an accident, we will follow the school first aide procedure.
