Through sport students learn about commitment, teamwork and relationships which all lead to positive personal and physical development. The Port Douglas State School Swimming Program is second to none. Every child has the opportunity to engage in a two week block of swimming lessons. Each lesson is 45 minutes long and is conducted by a qualified Austswim Teacher with over twenty years of experience. Because the students attend lessons every day, the skill building program delivered via explicit instruction results in faster and more extensive improvements for individuals. The program culminates with two swimming carnivals, one for the infants and one for students turning nine or older. This event is a selection trial for the Douglas District Swimming Sports.
